Two Men Suffer Burn Injuries from Burning Gas Tank

Two men were injured when a gas tank caught on fire on June 4 in Morgan Park. They were working on the car when the tank ignited, burning both of the men. The 46 year-old man was in critical condition at Advocate Crist Medical Center after suffering third-degree burns to over half of his body and a compromised airway. The 56 year-old man was in stable condition at Stroger Hospital, having suffered third-degree burns to less than half of his body.

There are three degrees of burns that are typically caused by heat sources, chemicals and electricity. First degree burns only involve the first layer of skin, and second degree burns only affect the first few lawyers. While first degree burns generally only last up to a week, second degree burns can leave blisters and last up to three weeks. Third degree burns are the most serious and destroy the outer layer of skin and the layer beneath. These type of burns may need expensive medical care and can leave skin discolored, swollen and in pain.
