In Memoriam, The Honorable Ian H. Levin
Ian Levin practiced as an attorney for 40 years with broad trial, appellate
and constitutional litigation experience. Levin served as a Cook County
Court Judge for 8 years and for 9 years as a Federal Magistrate Judge
in the United States District Court of the Northern District of Illinois.
He retired from the bench in 2006, following which he returned to private practice.
Levin, a C.P.A., was valedictorian of his DePaul Law School class and first
law clerk to Justice Daniel P. Ward of the Illinois Supreme Court. Following
law school, Levin served as a criminal trial attorney and chief of appeals
for the Cook County Public Defender's office. Levin then engaged in
private civil litigation practice with former U.S. Attorney Tom Foran.
After that, Levin was a law firm partner specializing in C.P.A. malpractice
As a trial judge, Levin was assigned to Chief Judge Donald O'Connell's
tort trial motion call and the individual commercial litigation calendar.
As a U.S. magistrate judge Levin was involved in all facets of federal
civil litigation and had 80 published opinions.
Pavich Law Group, P.C. was honored to have him as a member of their team
from 201 until the time of his passing in March 2016.
