High Energy Drinks Connected To Deaths

Posted By Pavich Law Group P.C. || 16-Nov-2012

According to a recent report in the New York Times, the Food and Drug Administration has reported that the popular 5-Hour Energy Drink has been implicated in at least 13 deaths over the past 4 years. These reports follow revelations that another popular energy drink, Monster Energy Drink, has been implicated in at least 5 deaths.

The New York Times reviewed a number of FDA records, finding that the 5-Hour Energy Drink has been mentioned in approximately 90 filings with the FDA. Shockingly, at least 30 of these filings detailed dangerous and potentially life threatening injuries, such as hear attacks, convulsions and even a spontaneous abortion, associated with energy drink consumption. Despite increasing calls for more regulation of the energy drink industry, the FDA has explained that it currently lacks adequate information to justify changing its regulation of the industry. Nevertheless, there have been a striking number of emergency room visits related to energy drink use. According to the NY Times report, in 2009 alone, there were more than 13,000 emergency room visits connected, in some way, to energy drinks.

The evidence is mounting that energy drinks may pose an unreasonable risk to consumers' health. Thus, they should be consumed sparingly and always in conformity with the directions. However, if you or a loved one has been injured, in part, because of energy drink consumption, you may be entitled to compensation.
